Gordon Hayward, a longtime resident of Brownsburg, is recognized for commitment to his faith and family, leadership in youth sports, and contributions to his community. Gordon's life is a demonstration of service, dedication, and a drive for excellence.
Early Life and Education
Gordon’s roots run deep in the close-knit community of Brownsburg. He grew up here and graduated from Brownsburg High School. His wife, Jody, and their twins, Heather and Gordon, did as well. His academic success and passion for math and science led him to Purdue University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Electrical Engineering.
Professional Career
Gordon began his career in Chicago at AT&T Bell Labs, an institution known for technological innovation. While working at Bell Labs, he obtained a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. His career continued back home at Global Tel Link, where he contributed to the company's leadership team. After a dedicated 35-year career in engineering and management, Gordon recently retired. He hopes he left a legacy of professional excellence and innovation.
Family Life
Gordon's personal life is marked by his deep commitment to his family. He and Jody have thoroughly enjoyed supporting and following their children throughout their academic, athletic and artistic pursuits. After attending Butler, their daughter Heather excelled as a BHS chemistry teacher, tennis coach, and Young Life area director. While their son, Gordon, was blessed with a career as a professional basketball player. The strength of family and support of community have been central to their individual and collective successes.
Community Involvement
Beyond his professional and family commitments, Gordon has been a steadfast supporter of youth sports in Brownsburg. Over the past 30 years, he has coached various sports at the youth, middle, and high school levels. His focus in coaching has always been to positively influence young athletes by instilling character and the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. In turn, he recognizes and appreciates the profound impact they have had on him.
In addition to coaching, Gordon has played a key role in the founding and leading of Brownsburg Young
Life, a Christian youth ministry, as the Committee Chair. He has been actively involved in leading, guiding, and mentoring young people, helping them navigate their spiritual journeys to develop strong values and moral foundations.
